While the majority of her time is spent in the corporate world, she regularly teaches at Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill and the Stanford Graduate School of Business where her book Suddenly Virtual: Making Remote Meetings Work was adopted into their strategic communications curriculum. Joseph A. Allen, PhD. is one of the world’s leading meeting scientists and a Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the University of Utah. His research focuses on the study of workplace meetings, organizational community engagement and occupational safety and health. He has more than 300 publications in academic and trade outlets, another 20 under review, and many works in progress for a number of journals.
Dr. Allen directs the Center for Meeting Effectiveness housed in the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and has consulted for more than 500 non-profit and for-profit organizations.
He teamed up with Karin Reed to author three highly acclaimed books: Suddenly Virtual: Making Remote Meetings Work, Suddenly Hybrid: Managing the Modern Meeting, and Running Effective Meetings for Dummies. Based upon their joint work, Dr. Allen delivers training with Karin Reed, focused on helping organizations get the most of the modern meeting.
